Our tutors are all volunteers. Unlike other programs, tutors may work with a different student each day. Because our adult learners did not succeed in more traditional classroom settings, our program offers the ultimate flexibility.

We hold tutoring sessions weekly on Saturday and Sunday at morning and evening times. Parents and tutors provide feedback through our optional session review forms.

EdLight is a platform to organize student work. Using EdLight's tutoring features, teachers can assign students to tutoring, specifying the standards / content for tutoring, and sharing any classwork / data that will allow the tutor to target their support. Tutors then share student work from each session back with teachers, allowing teachers to ensure that the tutoring is aligned to classwork and high quality. Families of students that require individualized supports have an uphill battle in determining what their child needs to succeed in school and how to go about getting it. Likewise, schools often face barriers in providing effective services to students with specialized learning plans: services can quickly become costly and resources are limited. The Education Lab conducted a study that demonstrates individualized, intensive (or “high-dosage”) tutoring can double or triple the amount of math high school students learn each year, increase student grades, and reduce math and non-math course failures. The findings, which are the result of an intervention developed by the non-profit organization Saga Education, come as school districts across America grapple with the pandemic’s academic fallout, including significant learning loss among students and the acceleration of pre-existing educational disparities.

The GO Foundation runs the GO Fellowship, an AmeriCorps national service program providing students in grades 3-12 with high-dosage tutoring in ELA and/or math and near-peer mentoring in an embedded model – from morning arrival through the end of the school day. Our tutors (“GO Fellows”) are typically recent college or high school graduates serving as AmeriCorps members who are trained to provide a year of hands-on service in schools.
